How The Lucky Die Was Born

Way back in the past, Volonda turned to Neil and Arch and said: “Hey, I have a dumb idea, I might have a campaign”.
A few weeks later Casey was brought into the fold, and with Neil editing, Arch on Social media and Casey rocking sponsorship duty, they were off.
A few months down the line, they went from fortnightly to weekly, a few months after that they had their first voice over, a few months later their first guest, more voice overs, then a crossover with another podcast. A year later, a Patreon funded side campaign called Kino, even more voice overs, another guest, their 100th episode, their first scripted drama and most recently the addition of their fourth player: Eyþór who works behind the scenes in advertising and marketing.
It has been a long process, but a good one, and we’re still looking to future as bigger things sit on our horizon.

What to Expect of TLD

The Lucky Die tells the story of Bikron, a fantasy world that is going through an apocalypse. Our flawed heroes, almost all at the end of a hangman's noose and the other drowning in self pity and addiction, now fight to try and resurrect a long dead legendary hero: once considered murderers and thieves, they now hold the fate of the world in their hands.

The world itself was in conflict long before we open our tale; a treaty thousands of years old divides the continents, orcs, demons and celestials rampage across the lands, political alliances breaking apart from the inside, powerful factions lead by unstable sorcerers… and then we open as blood pours from the sky announcing the death of a God. The world is detailed, and non player characters all have lives and stories of their own that help to fill this world with color and life.

Our main campaign focuses on four imperfect characters and their struggles to put back together a fallen hero, while broken and flawed themselves. The story mainly follows the trials they must face to fix the world, but also heavily incorporates the character’s backstories, their drive to fix themselves and the desperate need to help their loved ones.

The story, although intricate, at times deliberately thought provoking and full of mystery, it is mostly improvised - a dice roll can change the course of the story. Both the players and the Dungeon Mistress (the world the players encounter) must stay on their toes to react to the unknown. And due to the nature of the players involved, TLD has many humorous moments in, and out, of game.

The Lucky Die utilises beautiful scoring to highlight and enhance scenes without being intrusive. The editing, musical compositions and high quality audio, are evident even from the beginning, and still strives to improve to this day. Voice over talents from the Audio Drama community also lend their skills to TLD by voicing important characters; adding yet another layer of richness to the world.

With the introduction of the Patreon, it didn’t take long for fans to help reach the goal of starting a regular side campaign, set on the other continent, where our main adventurers are unable to set foot without sparking a war. This new campaign is released monthly, and focuses on three new companions as they try and cope in the end times.

Now with over 100 released episodes, an in cannon crossover, an additional player added to the roster, bonus episodes, more voice overs, more backstories, more quest, scripted episodes and a second campaign running in tandem with the main story all under their belt The Lucky Die is going from strength to strength and looking forward to whatever the future holds…

That is, if our brave adventurers can save the world. Can they? I guess we’re about to find out...

Neil - neil[at]blighthouse.studio

Rhal’Jakk & Ivoris, Editor & Musician

Neil got into podcasts and tabletop games after returning home from playing in punk rock bands in various parts of the country, which he did after quitting music education college. Having a personal love for cinematic and ambient music, Neil had dabbled in making experimental music in many genres before actually dedicating himself to learning audio production techniques.

His love for fantasy games, story telling, and being a huge pain at the table led him to find other dedicated people to do these art projects with. With his good collection of musical experience and very little DnD knowledge, the crew of TLD must attempt to put up with Neil's obscene DnD "art" as he edits and scores all original music for the episodes.
